‘ Joe Dix recently painted the exterior of our house, and we are very pleased with the results. The house is nearly 100 years old and the exterior woodwork is a mixture of original woodwork and more recent additions. The fact that the paintwork had been neglected in recent years meant that the work would need more than a quick sand and paint job. Joe's thorough approach struck exactly the right balance between protecting surfaces and achieving a fine appearance. In particular we were delighted with the way he made good any woodwork which had deteriorated, planed frames which were sticking, and treated the wood where needed to prevent further rot. Joe uses first-class materials and applies them skilfully. He is also very reliable, flexible in approach and the sort of person you are happy to have around. I have had no hesitation in recommending Joe to friends, and they have also been very pleased with his work. ‘

‘ I have known Joe Dix for twelve years and have found him reliable, straight forward and a hard worker. I live in a 100 year old house with a mature garden in a Conservation Area and have an on-going requirement for jobs that require more than basic care and maintenance. I have employed Joe usually once or twice a year for projects that last from 2 days to 2 weeks. Prior to starting a job we will discuss what is involved in some detail and then he goes ahead. In addition, he will use his initiative and stop a job and discuss if there is a snag or a better way of achieving the same result. I have been surprised that he has no formal qualifications as he certainly understands general building principles and related trades. March 2012 Update - Refurbishing downstairs toilet
‘ The original toilet had been installed in October 1985 shortly after purchasing the house and was looking tired and in need of serious refurbishment. The room was only two and a quarter square meters and needed careful design in order to maximise effectively the space available. Our general ideas were fine tuned by Joe and he advised us which units would fit the space and these were selected from the Bathstore catalogue. Floor and wall tiles were chosen not only for their visual effect but also for the practicality of installing in a 100 year old house with sloping wooden floors and walls that had moved slightly over time. The result is a modern downstairs toilet that blends perfectly with an old Thames Valley house. Well done Joe for your expertise and patience.’
